security and sound (2018)

Steel armature, sheets, curtains, tablecloths, blankets, pillows, video projection

Security and Sound is a fabricated steel structure draped with repurposed textiles. The chosen fabrics are united in their purpose to secure, protect, comfort, and shield. Using a domestic language I created an environment that invites the viewer to daydream, relax, drift to sleep, and briefly escape. Activating the sculpture is a projected video of archived sounds that I find soothing in day-to-day life. The audio-visual-sensory experience of the installation immerses the viewer into my idealized vision of safety and care.
